Dirt Bike Engines
Two-Stroke
Two-stroke engines complete one power cycle with one crankshaft revolution, or two strokes. Actions overlap in this system; the end of the combustion is simultaneous with the start of the compression stroke!
Most two-stroke engines are older in design, but that often makes them more straightforward. However, they do tend to expel more pollutants and burn through fuel faster.
Four-Stroke
Four-stroke engines complete one power cycle during two crankshaft revolutions, or four strokes. This cycle corresponds with intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust.
These designs are more complex, but also deliver more power and torque. They’re also much heavier, but they are actually quieter during operation!
