Prevent Overheating with Snowmobile Ice Scratchers
Unless you ride on powder 100% of the time, you and your snowmobile will benefit from ice scratchers. These devices are installed onto the rails of your rear suspension, one on each side. The scratchers have a sharp tip that digs into packed snow and ice and throws the resulting pulverized ice into your rear suspension.
Why do you need ice scratchers? The fact is, snowmobiles were designed to run on loose snow or powder, and their function relies on airborne snow, kicked up by the tracks, to keep the hard-working, hot-working parts of your snowmobile cool. If your machine isn’t getting that shower of snow where it needs it, it’s not getting the necessary cooling effect for your heat exchangers. Both the heat exchangers under the tunnel and the Hyfax slides under the rails can really heat up. If they get too hot, your engine can be permanently damaged and you might have to replace your rails -- both spendy prospects.
The expression “ice scratcher” is a bit misleading, because these devices aren’t for scratching solid ice, but they do dig into hard-packed snow and generate an arc of ground-up snow/ice.
We’ve got what you need for both your snowmobile and your snow bike that you’ve converted from a dirt bike. Please reach out to the team at Tracks USA in Lake Lillian, Minnesota if you’d like further information. We’re two hours west of Minneapolis.
